TIME FOR A TES REFRESH

With significant challenges and changes constantly facing the education recruitment landscape, we believe that it’s imperative to keep things fresh to allow your school to stay ahead of the curve. One of the ways you can stand out from the competition is by ensuring that your Tes employer profile is up to date and engaging and that it positions you as an employer of choice.

On average, Tes Jobs sees over 290,000 visitors weekly, so your employer profile is a major touchpoint for potential applicants. In fact, many job seekers often visit the Tes website ahead of a school’s own website. Your job advert may pique a potential candidate’s interest, but it’s your school’s culture and ethos that can make or break their decision to apply. That’s why creating as clear and detailed a picture of your school as possible is critical – it’s also an opportunity to shout about what makes you special!

At Point 13, our knowledge and expertise in the education sector will allow us to help you craft the most effective Tes employer profile. We recommend looking at the following points:

  • History and Ethos: Three in five teachers told Tes that when considering moving to a new school, the first thing they examine is the school’s ethos. What are your values and beliefs, and how do these extend into the atmosphere your school creates for your staff, parents and students?
  • Location: What are the advantages of the local area (such as good transport links, areas of natural beauty, and house prices)? Think about what makes your school’s location unique.
  • Facilities: Are there any facilities that staff members can benefit from, such as on-site gyms? Is the school on an old or new site? Are there purpose-built facilities per subject? What type of technology is available (such as laptops, iPads or interactive whiteboards in classrooms)?
  • CPD: Arguably one of the biggest selling point. This really targets and attracts candidates in the passive market.
  • Benefits: Always keep these up to date, and if you have something unique, share it!
  • Photos: If your school has beautiful surroundings or top-of-the-line facilities, why not show us? You can upload up to 20 photos to give visitors a taste of your environment.
  • Videos: Give candidates a real feel for the school – perhaps share an interview with your Headteacher or staff members to demonstrate what it’s like to work with you.
  • Attachments: You can upload your Ofsted report, prospectus, mission statement and Headteacher’s address to give job seekers everything they need in one place.

Building an effective Tes profile – one that highlights your values, ethos, and accolades – will differentiate your school from your competitors and define a sense of identity: in short, what it is that makes you you. Sharing as much detail and being as transparent as possible will answer the questions that applicants may have and inspire them to pursue your school as their next employer.
